Ozzie responds to Swisher
Nick Swisher and Ozzie Guillen were known to not see eye to eye last season. Swisher, (not unlike Guillen) is also known to not be shy around a microphone. Swisher was quoted recently in the New York Post saying Joe Girardi is the best manager he has ever played for. Of course Ozzie was asked about it, and was happy to comment on Swisher’s opinion.

White Sox and Cubs GM meeting rumors
A round up of rumors from the GM meetings in California regarding the White Sox and Cubs;
The Trib’s Dave Van Dyck reports the Sox are looking to move both Javier Vasquez and Nick Swisher. Van Dyck also had a White Sox contact tell him the club was looking at Colorado outfielder Willy Taveras. Taveras only had a .308 OBP last year but stole 68 bases, something Ozzie Gullien wants more of. In addition to those names, Mets second basemen Luis Castillo and Red Sox infielder Julio Lugo are mentioned as possible matches on a Vasquez deal. On the Swisher front, Sox GM Kenny Williams sounded like he didn’t know where he would play. Williams did say it was a “long off-season” when asked about Swishers’ position. That comment could allude to a Swisher or Paul Konerko deal. One that could open up first base for Swisher who played the position very well last year. Van Dyck, however adds that Swisher did not adapt to the Sox aggressive hitting philosophy and says he could be a better fit back in Oakland or Boston where patience is valued.
The Cubs meanwhile look to retain Ryan Dempster and Kerry Wood according to most media reports. The reports vary on the level of interest regarding the Padres Jake Peavy. Padres GM Kevin Towers is looking to clear payroll and get a significant return of young players. The Cubs reportedly have put together a package that would include the likes of Sean Marshall, Felix Pie, Jose Ceda, and Ronny Cedeno. We would not rule out a three team deal either. The Braves are hot on the trails of Dempster according to sources. If the Cubs fail to sign Dempster the Cubs could turn their attention to Derrick Lowe, AJ Burnett, or as Bruce Levine of ESPN am1000 reported today Ben Sheets. It has been noted the Cubs have an interest in either Raul Ibanez to play right or Brian Roberts to play second base. It is worth mentioning that Hendry has had an interest in Nick Swisher before. Hendry had Swisher as his back-up plan to Kosuke Fukudome last year. Could a cross-town deal be looked at?
