Matt Jones a fit for Bears?

matt-jones_1Jeff Dickerson wonders if the Bears would have interest in former Jacksonville receiver Matt Jones. Jones will not be facing an additional suspension from the NFL for violating his court mandated drug program, and is a free agent after being released by Jacksonville.

aboldin2Sounds like Jerry Angelo hasn’t closed the door on Anquan Boldin. The Bears GM did deny having any conversations involving Amani Toomer though.

Toomer or Boldin still available for Bears

boldin1The word from super-agent Drew Rosenhaus is Anquan Boldin is still on the market.

Apparently, the receiver and the Cardinals still can’t come to a happy place. Would the Bears entertain re-entering the Boldin talks? Would they be more likely to sweeten the pot with picks for next year’s draft?

Bears were not close on Boldin

Bears were not close on Boldin

boldinDan Pompei looks at the false rumors surrounding draft day for the Bears, including the limited talks for Anquan Boldin. Pompei says the Bears offered their second round pick and the deal went no further. The Bears also were interested in Ohio State’s Brian Robiskie, but didn’t have enough left after the Jay Cutler deal to make a move upward. One team wanted to trade their first round pick in 2010 for the Bears second round pick, but lost interest after a player they liked was gone.

Bears made play for Boldin, wanted Robiskie

iglesiasJerry Angelo did make a move for Anquan Boldin, the second round pick offered, just wasn’t enough for Arizona to bite. Rumors swirled early in the day that the Bears would be involved in the Boldin talks. The Bears then focused on Ohio State receiver Brian Robiskie and Ohio safety Michael Mitchell.

Dickerson also posts, after receiver the Bears will have a defensive laden draft.

Bears don’t have enough left for Boldin?

71465343LB018_Bears_CardsDavid Haugh writes: The currency the Cardinals want to use in any trade for Boldin — first-round draft picks — the Bears simply don’t have. When it comes to high draft picks to spend in a trade, the Bears are the General Motors of the NFL. They can’t spend capital they don’t have — and no federal bailout is coming their way.

A source at the combine tells us Jerry Angelo met super agent Drew Rosenhaus Thursday night, and says “you can bet they discussed Anquan Boldin”. Arizona would have to give Rosenhaus permission to seek a deal; otherwise any talk would be considered tampering. The Vikings will be making a move at QB despite all the talk of competition between Tavares Jackson and Gus Frerotte. The Bears were very excited by their meeting with Maryland receiver Darius Heyward-Bey, and says he would be the receiver he could see the Bears drafting.

Bears losing options?

Bears losing options?

Vaughn McClure reports that the franchise tags applied Thursday will hurt the Bears chances of landing a major free agent.  We have to wonder if other than Julius Peppers, would the Bears have targeted one of these names mentioned?

Thursday was not an ideal day for the Bears’ hopes of landing a high-caliber free agent.

And the Steelers slapped the franchise tag on left tackle Max Starks, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Not to mention the Panthers franchised defensive end Julius Peppers, as expected. Peppers said such a move would prompt a trade, but the Bears are not one of the teams on Pepper’s short list.

And receiver Anquan Boldin now seems open to signing a long-term deal with the Cardinals.
