Cubs sale re-opened? Kenney speaks about trade deadline

David Kaplan’s latest on the Cubs sale has sources telling him the process could be reset, and new bidders could enter or re-enter the picture. Kaplan also says the Cubs will not be able to add significant money at the trade deadline.
That scenario was echoed today by Crane Kenney when he visited the “Waddle and Silvy Show”. Kenney was asked about adding someone such as Jake Peavy. Kenney said he didn’t see the need for Peavy, with the Cubs pitching staff doing so well. Kenney did say the Cubs could add a needed part, by using prospects instead of adding a big salary, he added the Cubs are still under the pre-approved budget for player salaries.
More from Kaplan:
A very well placed source who I spoke with this afternoon told me that he believes that one of two things will probably happen over the next 30-60 days. Either the terms of the sale will be agreed to promptly and it will then head to the bankruptcy court for their clearance before Major League Baseball gives their approval or the creditors of the Tribune Company could assume control of the company.
If that happens then the creditors can either keep Sam Zell and his management team in place while they call the shots on the day to day operations of the company or they can remove Zell and his team and run the company with their own people.
Should that happen then you might see the sale price of the team go down as the creditors look to get what they can so that they are not forced to run a baseball team that they know nothing about.
