Tallon’s seat getting hotter?

Steve Rosenbloom speculates the Hawks would be interested in freshly available GM Brian Burke. Burke, who won a Stanley Cup with Anaheim is stepping away and would like a job closer to the east coast. Tallon’s job has been rumored to be on shaky ground since day one of the Rocky Wirtz era.

Remember how miserable and helpless Dale Tallon looked the day he had to take the hit for Scotty Bowman’s suggestion-slash-order to fire Denis Savard?

Well, he might need Xanax or Prozac over the next two weeks, and here’s why:

Brian Burke is on the market, or will be by Thanksgiving, after the Stanley Cup-winning general manager stepped down in Anaheim Wednesday and agreed to a couple weeks of transitioning the program to new GM and former Hawks GM Bob Murray.

Burke is not burned out. Burke is not looking to grab a blow dryer, hit the Mac counter and pull a TV gig. Nope, Burke is looking for another GM position east of the Mississippi to be closer to Boston, where kids from the Harvard lawyer’s first marriage live, and also help his current wife further her TV career.

Chicago might not be the Big Apple, but I hear there’s a big choice of direct flights. Burke loves this city and has some roots in the area. Oh, and did I mention that 2007 Stanley Cup with the Ducks?
The. Ducks.
