Why Hawks dismissed Savard so quickly

A Blackhawks source tells us the main reason the organ-i-zation dismissed Dennis Savard so early in the season.

The Hawks originally thought that the young team could develop steadily along with Savard. However, plans changed when Hawks brass came to a decision that this young team could compete for one of the top four spots in the Western Conference immediately. Enter Joel Quenneville.

Just a matter of urgency? Scotty Bowman was not brought in here to bring this along slowly, and the Hawks want to capitalize on their resurgence in the city and compete ASAP.

As far as GM Dale Tallon is concerned, it seems they will evaluate him at seasons end.

Bowman is the man behind the curtains for sure. The mighty Oz. Hawks still look like one of the top four teams in the West after a quarter of the season gone. They probably made the right choice…
