Sources told Chi-Ball something could happen by Monday on the Marriotti front. Interest in him is coming straight from the top, Sam Zell, Lee Abrams, etc., not from the people who are responsible for the day to day paper. They (Trib) are looking into his contract to see if there is any way he could be in the paper as well as on the internet. There are a lot of ticked off people about this, especially considering the Trib just trimmed 80 people. Now Marriotti is probably going to come in as a highly paid star.

I think Jay would do great with the Trib. Only people that dont like him are sox fans.

The only people who don’t like Jay are: a) people who care about journalistic ethics; b) people who don’t want unrelenting negativity; c) people who think a newspaper is not a place for petty vendettas to be played out; d) people who like good writing free of tortured logic and bad puns. The people who like Jay think that cheap insults are “telling it like it is” and that hiding in your basement and insulting people is the height of integrity and bravery. Jay is an untalented megalomaniac and I hope he leaves Chicago for good. We need more journalists like Sam Smith and David Haugh, not the return of Jay.

Dave, the truth hurts. Jay lasted 17 years at the suntimes, landed radio and tv jobs, he does his job. For the record, I bet you are a sox fan.

I’m a big Jay Mariotti fan. I look forward to him going to the Trib…

Could someone please dig up all of Jay’s columns where he just bashes the living crud out of Sam Zell?
I’d love to see what Mariotti would have to say if confronted with those articles once he’s getting a paycheck from the man.
